Layering necklaces is not about piling everything on at once. It is about creating a deliberate story around your neck. I am going to show you how. Done right, it looks effortless, elevated, and personal. Done wrong, it can look like chaos. The difference lies in the details. Personally, I love layering necklaces, it can really create interest and a signature look, and to be honest, this was a very important tenet of my brand, to create unique layers and charms to add to everyone's collection.
The first rule is proportion. You want contrast in length, weight, and texture. Start with a base chain that feels clean and close to the collarbone, then add something longer with movement. For example, our ball chains sit beautifully as a foundation. Fine yet structured, they catch the light in just the right way. From there, you can add a charm necklace or a bolder link to frame it.
The second rule is texture. Mix link styles and finishes so the eye travels. A heavy square link against a delicate snake chain instantly feels more considered. This is where the Crying Eye Pendant, the evil eye pendant or the LeKayeKaye Monster Charm comes in. Its pear cut lab grown diamond head and diamond eyes add both dimension and intrigue. Anchor it on a longer chain and suddenly the entire stack feels intentional. I also ALWAYS add a lariat, either the Serpent Lariat or the Extra long marquise lariat.
The third rule is personality. Your layers should reflect your story. A Talismanic Hand Amulet speaks to protection and cultural resonance, while emerald solar drop charms bring in playful color and movement. Combining pieces like these creates a look that is more than decorative. It is symbolic, powerful, and uniquely yours.
The last rule is restraint. Luxury is in knowing when to stop. Four to five layers is usually enough. Let the look breathe. A strong foundation chain, an accent chain, a few statement charms, and one or two accent pieces are often all you need.
Layering necklaces is about intention. The best combinations look like they happened without trying, but in reality they are curated with care. When you treat your jewelry as an extension of your style vocabulary, layering becomes second nature. Every stack tells its own story.
Send me your layering pics on instagram, I love to see them!
